FAVORITE LOCAL RECIPE OF THE DAY

Furikake Chex Mix

Jan 27, 2012 -- 5:00am

1/4 cup butter
1 Tablespoon shoyu
1/4 cup Karo (corn syrup)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 box rice or corn Chex
1 bottle Furikake (plain one with only seaweed & sesame seeds)

Method:

~ Heat oven to 250 degrees
~ Mix butter, shoyu, Karo, oil and sugar in a small saucepan over stovetop
until butter is melted.
~ Put Chex in large pan, pour  mixture over chex & mix well.
~ Pour Furikake over chex. DO NOT MIX YET!! Don't do it!!
~ Bake for 30 minutes then mix around and bake for another 30 minutes.
~ Remove from oven and let cool completely before eating.

History:
~ I got this one from my niece Shaina. While growing up she loved to bake and
for a while I called her the family baker. This is a local Hawaii twist to the original
Chex party mix.

Warning: This one is extremely addictive!!

Almost NO Sugar Cookies

Jan 12, 2012 -- 5:00am

1 cup butter
6 Tablespoons sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla

Method:
~ Cream butter and sugar & vanilla

~ Add flour slowly, mix until smooth.
~ Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
~ Bake at 350 degrees for 10 -12 minutes.

History:
~ This was the first thing I learned to bake. It is the simplest recipe for cookies. These
are ono and cheap to make. I remember during the summer we would have cookie
baking days. We would spend the whole day baking cookies. We would make 10 - 12
recipes of this cookie at a time (There was 11 of us in the house). Mom would get out
the big mixing pan and we would make giant batches of cookies. Filling 3-4 five gallon
buckets. Seriously! Those were the days. This is a good recipe for people who are
diabetic.
